Message 1st - Since he is a minor, she will probably need to sue his parents.

2nd - Was he insured? If not she may have a hard time collecting even if she wins.

3rd - Most plaintiff lawyers will take cases of this type on contingency provided they feel there is a good chance of winning. There fee will be a percent of the final settlement. This can be as high as 50% for cases that go to litigation.

4th - If an insurance company is involved and the claimed damages are large, expect the insurance company to bring in its lawyers. This may be good news or bad news depending on the merits of your case. If the the insurance lawyers believe they will lose, they will almost always recommend a settlement. If they feel they can win, they will go to court. When insurance lawyers choose to go to trail, they usually win.

5th - The level of damages you are likely to receive is well know. Personal injury lawyers on both sides subscribe to data bases that contain settlement data for all manner of injuries.
